Universal Joints. When to replace?

Rust coming out of a U-Joint is a sure sign that the grease in the joint has been replaced by moisture & the joint has failed

Universal joints may become noisy, they can bind and cause vibrations when turning or at specific speeds when moving. They may also cause intermittent problems. Your technician may ask you to go for a drive with them to duplicate your concerns.

Universal Joints can be found in propeller shafts

Drive Axles @ the steering wheels

And in the Steering Column.

Original Equipment U-Joints often do not have grease fittings, Replacement parts often do. If a joint has been replaced, the technician will need to be diligent when checking the vehicle @ time of service to ensure that greaseable components are serviced.
