
Brake Warning light
Brakes can fail in many different ways. Aside from noise and unusual “Feel” Here are some symptoms and (without an actual inspection), how critical they could be.
“Red” Brake working light on: A) On many vehicles this could be a warning that your have left the park brake applied. You should stop as soon as you can do so safely and check the park brake pedal or lever to ensure that it is fully disengaged.
- B) if there is a low brake fluid condition or a potential problem with the Base Hydraulic Brake System. You should stop as soon as you can do so safely. Check for fluid in the brake master cylinder & for brake fluid leaks @ any of the wheels or under the vehicle. This warning could mean that you may lose proper operation of your brake system. This problem should be diagnosed quickly and if you see what could be a brake fluid leak it might be safer to have the unit towed to a repair facility.
Amber warning lights (ABS) (TCS or Traction Control) (Service 4 whl Drive)
These Amber lights indicate a problem with a part of the brake system that is not likely to result in the loss of the Base Brake System. They will still require attention. The use of a capable Bi-Directional Scan tool will likely be required to correctly identify the components that require attention. When on, your ABS & Traction control systems will be disabled. These light may also be on as a result of an engine or transmission system problem or even a low tire.
Annual Inspection and Service of your brake system has become increasingly critical as vehicle Anti-Lock Brake, Stability Control, Collision Avoidance & Adaptive Cruise Control system have become common place on most newer vehicle.
